| As the classic works of Classical History, Histories and History of thePeloponnesian War had been studied independently many times by academics aroundthe world, but have not yet seen systematic comparative study between Histories andHistory of the Peloponnesian War. This thesis comparatively studied on these twoworks based on existing researches, the investigation focused on difference between thetwo works, and found out similarities and differences of thinking and historical methodsbetween them. Finally, expect to promote the relative research deeply according to thestudy of this thesis.As we known, a lot of contents were written in Histories and History of thePeloponnesian War. The author has no intention to compare them all, but analyzedsome representative aspects. According to these main aspects, the thesis is made up offive parts. The first chapter is an introduction, which contains five aspects as follow:research review, research contents, research methods and objective. The second chaptercompared the two authors, including age of their living, the purpose of writing, personalstandpoint, writing style, and historical status. The third chapter comparatively studiedthe differences between the two works, in view of war descriptions as the core contentin them, the main contents of this chapter included cause, process, results and nature ofthe two wars. The forth chapter analyzed the thought of the two works, which consist ofsocial and political thought, nationality concept, concept of Manifest Destiny andeconomic history. In the fifth chapter, different historical methods of the two works hadbeen studied, including narrative method, material collection, historical principle. Atlast, it is the conclusion which summarizes the research result in this thesis and the viewof the author. |
