Narrative Research On The Empathy Engagement Of The Network Novel

The influence of network novel is growing rapidly with a particular social value, with overall quality, however, gliding on the contrary. The literatures on network novel are based on the theory of art, which lack the investigation of special works and also not from the view of psychology. Because of the unique environment of internet, the authors of network novels hope to attract quantities of readers in a short time. As a result, the ability to build empathy engagement becomes the advantage of them. To investigate the composition and structure of empathy engagement could enlighten the authors, and enhance the appreciation of the readers, so as to assist to build a better internet literature environment. In addition, because of the similarity of empathy and empathy engagement, the investigation of the latter can offer brand new prospect and content to empathy.In the frame of narrative analysis theory, this dissertation attempt to identify the intension and extension of the empathy engagement by text analysis, interview analysis, and questionnaire survey. In text analysis,4fantasy novels and2romance novesl were coded using QSRNvivo software;10fans of network novel volunteered to receive the interview, in which semistructure was used to collect as much information about reading experience as possible; the questionnaire on empathy engagement of network novel was formatted on the base of the former two investigations, and was published on the net to test.The empathy engagement of network novel was divided into3categories and22conceptions in the text analysis, and the model of it was built to explore the structure. As a result, some differences can be found in different novels, which on the other hand keep to the same narrative pattern, that can be used for reference in empathy course. The interview analysis shows the identity for the character in the novel is the main factor in emotion empathy engagement, with plot suspense and well writing also being important. The result of questionnaire suggests readers in different ages and reading ages favors different styles of novel, and the readers in general pay high attention to the interestingness and writing skills.
