Can Xue, as one of the pioneering writers of the20th century in China attracts much attention. Since she set her feet in the literary field, she has held the distinctive western cultural imprint. She never conceals the influence of Western Literature She accepted,"My traditional culture is western culture, form which I have absorbed much nutrition". Among these outstanding western writers, the Argentine writer Borges is included.Known as the "writer’s writer", Borges, with his creations filled with modern flavor, had a profound effect on a group of young writers and poets of the middle and latter1980s in China. While Can Xue Always has been highly commending Borges and claiming him as "the ghost writer" for creating "the pure and sophisticated art." But referring to the western cultural impact, she has never forgotten to mention Borges. She once narrated:"What has the most crucial and direct influence on me is the introduction of the western literary in the1980s; however, I just like Kafka、Borges、Beckett.......""I have read all the passages of Borges, each at least four or five times. I always write something about those writers that affect me."While Can Xue had written 《Interpretation of Borges》, Numerous facts prove that she had bluntly admitted being influenced by Borges. So demonstrated Borges’s influence on Can Xue has been to have a sufficient factual basis.This thesis is composed of three parts. The first part is introduction.which constructs a frame for the following thesis. It briefly deals with the choosing of the present topic and the significance of the study, generously review the foreign and domestic relevant researches, and put forward the creative points and lay the foundation for the body part.The second part constitutes the main body of the thesis, which will be elaborated in three chapters. The first chapter in this part demonstrats Can Xue’s "expectational vision" of Borges. This chapter is composed of the haunting life experience and the expectation for reading featured by confronting the soul.While the emphasis will be put on the life experience of Can Xue, the "pre-comprehension" structure formed by the precious literary capability and opinions and the established "oriented expectation" on Borges’s works. The second chapter is devoted to Can Xue and Borges’s "Fusion of Horizons", and it mainly discusses the acceptance of Can Xue to Borges’s literary concept and practice, including "all novels are autobiography""Literature is fantasy""Literature is a mere game""maze constructed" and so on. In Chapter three, Can Xue’s "Cultural Filtering" include such three aspects as denial, distortion and misreading, representing the creative conversion and spiritual elevation on the part of Can Xue accepting Borges’s works. The last two chapters are the emphasis of the thesis, which explores the acceptance and "filtration" of Can Xue on Borges, and an intention for a corresponding mutual relations.The third part is conclusion. In this part, the uniqueness of Can Xue’s acceptance of Borges is stated, whose significance and restrictions is also pointed out; At last, the keynote of the thesis is reiterated. In summary, after having accepted the influence of western literature including that of Borges, Can Xue has gradually become an outstanding and unique figure in the history of Chinese literature, Showing the unique characteristics.
