The film adaptation in the period of1949-1966in China, not only bears the important task of transformation of the classical art form-drama and literature, but also needs to make new interpretation and reposition on the original work, because the social environment and art policy have been changed, accordingly, film directing and producing system have to make adjustments. There is a distinct characteristic of the film adaptation of1949-1966in China, that is, adapters must pay more attention to political ideology and people’s aesthetic demands, but they can not violate the spirit of the original quality. Although political environment is extremely unstable, many adapters keep a clear mind and pursue the essence of art. Through the tests of time, they create numerous achievements.Among the great quantity of achievements, there are two important parts arouse the author’s interest, one part is movies adapted from Red Classics of the Anti-Japanese War and Liberation War, the other is movies adapted from Literature Classics after the New Culture Movement of May4th. So, this article chooses two representative works-The White Haired Girl and The Shop of Lin Family for example, and analyzes the process of adaptation, in order to find out how adaptation films can survive and come to the top in the turbulent environment.This article aims to show the adapters’ endeavor and skills as model, then, raises the principle of film adaptation--the unity of the faithful and creative. The author tries to point out and correct some behaviors which have deviated from the nature of art, and appeal that film adaption should follow the laws of art, respect the spiritual essence of our nation, only then can we create new classics!...
