Attitude is one of the major factors affecting students’ English learning results.This paper, focusing on vocational students, studies their attitudes towards Englishlearning to understand their English learning status. From the following threedimensions, cognition, emotion and behavioral intention, the author designs theEnglish learning attitude questionnaire, and makes a survey about English learningattitudes among students in a vocational and technical school in Hunan. Finally, alldata have been statistically analyzed with SPSS, and the interview material has beenprocessed and analyzed as well. The results of the study show that there are manyproblems among vocational students about English learning, for example, inadequateattention to English, poor basis in English, lacking self-confidence, interests andmotivation in English learning, poor performance in independent learning, lowefficiency, lacking perseverance and hard-working spirit, and cognitive biases againstEnglish, etc.Meanwhile, the learning results of vocational students are significantly related tothe three components as cognition, emotion and behavioral intention. The relationshipbetween attitude and achievement is not one-way but mutual. Positive attitudestowards learning will help to achieve excellent grades, and good academicperformance is more beneficial to cultivate a positive attitude towards learning.Therefore, this paper advocates that the three components, cognition, emotion andbehavioral intention, form the foundation of promoting English learning enthusiasmand initiative. Accordingly, the learning outcomes will be greatly enhanced.
