A Case Study On Improving Readability By Reducing Translation Of English Prepositions Articles And Pronouns Into Chinese

This thesis is to demonstrate that readability of translation text will be improvedby reducing the translation of English prepositions, articles and pronouns into Chinese. Onthe focus of readability, the author selects20examples from practices to make aquestionnaire for double-blind test. The subjects are graduate students with good Chineseknowledge. Then based on the survey result, the author analyses seven cases from theperspective of translation standards set by Language Service Providers, and proposes somesuggestions and guidelines for dealing with the three kinds of words mentioned above. Theauthor hopes that this thesis will be helpful for understanding the importance of readability,for self-training of beginners to learn translation and for production.
