| Note-taking is one of the most important skills in consecutive interpretation.Note-taking is to help understanding and memory. There are no rigid rules. Each interpreterhas its own behavior. As a tool, note-taking should always play a positive role. However,because student interpreters may not have developed sufficient skills, note-taking mayexert negative impact on the quality of interpretation. This thesis analyses two roles ofnote-taking in the Chinese-English consecutive interpretation on “China’s Real EstateIndustry and Urbanizationâ€. One is its positive role, and the other is its negative impact.And in order to improve this skill and maximize its positive influence, the thesis suggestssome exercises: improve the symbol system, do practice without notes, harmonizenote-taking and listening, improve the ability of deverbaliztion, enhance eye contact,increase the amount of information stored in short-term memory, amongst others. Insummary, this thesis is to maximize the benefits of note-taking and improve the quality ofinterpreting. |
