Commentary Of Ellen Wood’s View Of Historical Materialism

This thesis’s topic selection and creation is based on my research interests, andcomplete it with my teacher’s research direction and background, it aims to throughone of the western leftist and outstanding representative Alan MeiKeSen Wood, andanalyses his concept of the critical about historical materialism, and reveals itstheoretical content and academic value. Alan Wood was abundant in many theories, ithas a great influence on the western leftist, in recent years Chinese scholars pay moreattentions on it, not only his book was introduced and translated in China, anddomestic scholars began to study the theory.The main content of this paper consists into three parts. The first part, this paperdiscusses the formation conditions and theoretical basis of the historical materialismview about Wood, and put forward the democratic vision from her historicalmaterialism to the concept of the necessity and the theoretical logic. The second part,it discusses the basic content of Wood’s historical materialism,and reveals the issueof how to understand the basic theory of historical materialism again, such as therelationship between productivity and production， economic foundation andsuperstructure, the essence of history, the development of history power, capitalismand socialism, etc.On the one hand, investigates her historical materialism criticism ofthe traditional theory, on the other hand states her new understanding of it. The thirdpart, reveals Wood’s success and failure and significance of historical materialismconcept.
