During the period of teaching internship in Thailand, the author found that thedifference between Chinese characters and Thai alphabets and the three difficulties oflearning Chinese characters itself formed great obstacles for Thai students to learn Chinesewell. The students felt bored about Chinese courses, which influenced Chinese coursesoffering. In the long view, it will affect the development of the career of Chineseinternational promotion. So teaching Chinese characters to Thai students is one of thedifficult points in teaching Chinese in Thailand.The object of domestic Chinese character teaching tends to be overseas studentswhose major is Chinese. The students who select Chinese as an optional course but don’tmajor in Chinese are paid little attention. In the researches of Chinese writing errors, Thaicollege students who study preliminary level Chinese but don’t major in Chinese are alsopaid little attention.This thesis set Rajamangla University of Technology Rattanakosin Wangklaikangwonas an example. The author collected664papers as writing errors materials of students whoselected Chinese as an optional course but didn’t major in Chinese in this campus from2008to October2011and then processed, analyzed and summed up the materials. Thedifficult points of writing Chinese characters for students who studied preliminary levelChinese but didn’t major in Chinese were obtained. The causes of errors were analyzedfrom angles, such as writing habits, generalization of target language, writing context,Chinese textbook, curriculum design, individual factor, teacher’s factor. Finally, accordingto teaching experience, the author analyzed the Chinese characters learning situation inthis campus, summed up teaching strategies of Chinese characters and feedbacks from thestudents and gave some useful suggestions.
