Argos is a very important city-state in Greek history. The economic of Argos developed rapidly and the population of Argos continued to increase, which made Argos enentualy unify the Argolid region. It made Argos become the most powerful city-state in Peloponnese region and also become the leader of the city-states in Peloponnese region. Because of the lack of historical materials, the hegemony issue of Argos is not in-depth.In this paper the auther tries to use the archaeological data and the literature material to reach on three aspects. The frist are the conditions and background of buliding the hegemony. The second is the process of buliding the hegemony. The thrid is the decline of the hegemony.The paper can be divided into three major parts:the foreword, the text, and the conclusion. The foreword briefly introduces the brief reasons and the significance for the choice of this topic, the present situation of the academic research in and abroad. The text is made up of three chapters:the frist charpter introduces the basic information and the background of Argos and points that unique natural conditions are the basis for the establishment of the hegemony. The rapid development of economy and society of Argos, the formation of the city-ststes and the wars between the city-states are the objective background of buliding the hegemony. The second introduces the proccess of buliding the hegemony. This parts points out the hegemony of Argos is divided into two stages. There are unify the Argolid region and then be the leader of Peloponnese area. Moreover, the reform of Pheidon is the key factor for buliding the hegemony. The third tries to analyzes the reason why the hegemony decline.This part points out:after the death of Pheidon, the internal political turmoil of Argos and the international situation changes are the main reasons for the decline of Argos. Especially in the international background of the city-state stacks, the changes of international pattern is the most important reason for the decline of Argos. The last summarizes the hegemony of Argos and points out Hegemonism is not noly the natural production of hegemony, but also the fundamental reason for the decline of the hegemony.
