For more than a century, some Chinese writers left their homeland to North America orEurope for living or survival in order to continue their literature dreams. Asian-Americanliterature has infused a new life and energy into the American letters since1960s, includingJapanese-American literature, Philippine-American, Korea-American, SoutheastAsia-American and Chinese-American. While Chinese-American literature go ahead. In spiteof this, Chinese-American literature belongs to the marginal area.As the growing of America multicultural movement, Chinese-American literature gets arapid development from the1970s. Many Chinese-American writers with exceptional talentand creative mind have come to the fore in the American literary. As the secondChinese-American generation, Maxine Hong Kingston becomes the best of her eras.Tripmaster Monkey---His Fake Book (1989) was regarded her autobiographical fiction wherereveals Chinese American realistic life circumstances through the description of theprotagonist, Ah Sing. Because of the cultural estrangement and conflict, they change theirinherent ideas to seek for two cultural harmonies and establish their own unique culturalidentity between two cultures.This thesis consists of three parts:The first part is made up of four paragraphs. The first paragraph mainly introducesMaxine Hong Kingston and her works. The second paragraph gives an introduction toTripmaster Monkey-His Fake Book. The third paragraph is for the literature review. And thefourth paragraph introduces Homi Bhabha’s Hybridity theory and The Third Space theory.The second part is the main body which includes three chapters. Chapter One discusses thehero, Wittman Ah Sing who is a contradictory hybridity; Chapter Two analyzes Wittman AhSing’s process to make his dream come true as an aspirational third-space fighter; ChapterThree explores how Wittman Ah Sing becomes an adamant pacificist. The conclusion part isa cultural view represented by Maxine Hong Kingston. Based on transcending the boundaryof nation, race, culture and language, Kingston is to pursue an ethnic and cultural equality.
