Worship of elm is popular among the Mongolian area, for they believe that elms have Wengute, the guardian god. The ancient Mongolian worship elms rooted on the bare field among which only grows near to villages named Sageermaodu,(the lush tree) is regarded as the guardian god of the village. The names of elm are varied via different area, such as "Sageermaodu," in some area, and "Xiangshi Maodu" in Keerqin area in Mongolian region.So far the sacrifice rituals of Xiangshi tree worship remains in Keerqin area in Mongolian region, including the individual sacrifice rituals, which is simple and lasts less time, and the collective sacrifice rituals which involves more procedures and large-scale recreation activities. The rituals of Xiangshi tree worship remain the religious activity of Mongolian Shamanism as well as Tibetan Buddhism. With the development of society and economy, the rituals have changed a lot.Rituals of Xiangshi tree worship is a civil relief activity full of regional and ethnical characteristics with a social scene provoked by the rituals. It is only in this way which a further study on the participants of the rituals and a careful observation on their daily life have been made that the cultural connotation can be understood and the cultural scenery can be appreciated with the local residents. The author believes the rituals reflect not only the scene that the participants pray for rain, but the collective concept and motions of Naiman people as well.
