Research Of Zhang Liguo’s Artistic Style

According to the visible transformation of Zhang Liguo’s artistic style since1950, this paper defined his artistic practice as three stages:the early period, transition and mature. The Soviet realism painting has largely influenced his artistic style of early period. But Zhang Liguo’s painting represents the tendency of self-discipline in the form of modern fine arts at the same time. His artistic style of transition period has completely transferred into modernism art which pursuits the shape of abstract-expressionism, the abstract color of fauvism and the atmosphere of surrealism in painting. The Everlasting, which is the epitomizing work of Zhang Liguo, has been accomplished in this period. His artistic style of mature period became diversified. Zhang Liguo experimented with different materials and various painting method. The themes of painting in this period include "Silhouette" which undermines the human nature, the "Three-Lines-Space" which explores the secrets of space, the "Landscape" which expresses the interest and illusion of the Chinese traditional literati painting. Zhang Liguo’s artistic practice is gradually melted into the post-modernist context.
