| The thesis analyzes the changes in American economy, politics and society in the20thcentury, especially after the Second World War, so as to probe the statusenhancement of the white-collar women in America after the Second World War aswell as the causes of their status enhancement.The introduction briefly introduces the internal and external research on the classof white-collar and the social status of women from a historical perspective. It alsogives a brief introduction of the academic values of this topic, the structure of thisthesis, as well as the characteristics and innovation of this paper.This thesis consists of three parts:The first part gives some definition of the relative issues. It introduces thecategories of white-collar class, analyzing the background and reasons of theemergence of white-collar class as well as the reasons why the white-collar womenclass emerged in the first half of the20thcentury.The second part probes the status enhancement of white-collar women inAmerica in detail, for instance, there are more and more choices of career for women;women’s income is getting close to that of men’s; though gender discrimination exists,it becomes weaker; the political rights of women are ensured gradually; women’sscopes of activity has been expanded, not only limited in their houses, but also takingpart in more social activities.The third part analyzes the reasons for the status enhancement of white-collarwomen in America after the Second World War, such as the changes of industrialstructure caused by the high development of economy after the Second World War;the fast food industry has relieved women from their families; the government investmore money in education so as to enhance the competence of women in career; thewomen’s rights movement in America in1960s has great influence on women.The last part is conclusion, which makes a summary to the preceding discussion,with the hope that people can have a better understanding of the role that women playin the society. |
