| Ancient Japan was continually influenced by China, regarding Chinese social system and culture as ideals. In mid9th century, during Bai Juyi’s life time, his works were introduced and well received in Japan. A century later poetry collections of Li Bai and Du Fu were also introduced in Japan. To this day, the works of them are known for more than1000years in Japan. However, Bai Juyi still commands a much higher status than Li Bai and Du Fu in Japan. This paper studies the reasons behind the popularity of Bai Juyi’s poetry in Japan.In Chapter1, the circumstances of "Baishi-Wenji (The collection of Poems by Bai Juyi)" introduction in Japan and currently available documents are compiled.Chapter2explains different receiving (absorption/adaptation)methods of "Baishi-Wenji"Chapter3discusses the different approaches and attitudes of Japanese sinologists towards "Baishi-Wenji".Chapter4deals with the different perceptions and attitude of Hege (Japanese poetry) towards "Baishi-Wenji" and further examines "Baishi-Wenji"’s influence on "Guofeng culture (indigenous Japanese culture)"... |
