Status And Role Of Guanzi In Ziwei Blowing-song

There is a small village in the Jizhong plain, which is located in the southeastern edge of the Dingzhou city. As an important symbol of the Jizhong blowing-song, the Ziwei blowing-song is named after that village, Ziwei Village. Ziwei Village’s population is a nearly ten thousands, the people who can play and keen on blowing-song is no less than one thousand. During festive seasons, weddings and funerals, or the day of celebration, people always get together to play blowing-song, which has formed a traditional fashion.Guanzi is an ancient folk instruments. By the time of Western Han Dynasty, Guanzi called wicker-horn when it is came from Qiuci into the Central Plains. During the Tang Dynasty,"Guanzi" take a gradual replacement of the original Transliteration from the Qiuci as the instrument name, and gradually Chinesization. Ming and Qing Dynasties, Guanzi has been widely used in play folk music in many folk instrumental ensemble. In the religious music or opera accompaniment, Guanzi has played a very important role. Guanzi carrying the principal part in the Dingzhou Ziwei blowing-song’s performance, it plays the role of lead or solo, Guanzi’s tone is high-pitched and bright, it can also be enthusiastic, passionate or reverberates melodious. The Melody of Guanzi is mostly Jizhong plain performing customs and have a strong flavour of rural life.In this paper, the author through the survey and interview on the Dingzhou Ziwei blowing-song, make a preliminary investigation and analysis of the blowing-song’s history, heritage and development.Analyze the Guanzi music by the investigation, use the theoretical methods of anthropology and ethnomusicology to arrange and research the present status of Guanzi. This paper focus on culture, geography and historical background of the Guanzi and Dingzhou Ziwei blowing-song, explore the role and position of the Guanzi played in the the Dingzhou Ziwei blowing-song by two field trips cases. The author hopes to provide an instance, which is made by author’s own research and study of blowing-song, as a reference for research the existence and development of Guanzi.
