David J. Elliott is regarded as one of core characters in the field, and his famous book MUSIC MATTERS has brought to the warm discussion on the topic of praxial music education philosophy.And in this discussion,what kind of views do these scholars take, the supportive or the negative, and how does the discussion on this topic go? This paper is about the research of the essay book PRAXIAL MUSIC EDUCATION:REFLECTIONS AND DIALOGUES.Literature research methods and interview methods were used to translate, analyze and comment the main contents of seventeen chapters of the book and one author of them was interviewed for the further understanding of this theory.This paper consists five chapters. Of them, the introduction includes the origin of topic selection, research content, research methods, research meaning and the relevant researches domestic and abroad. According to the contents of the paper, the entire collections were divided into four chapters. The first chapter is about the basic theories, including5units; The second chapter is about cognition, including3sections; The third chapter is about practices, including3units; the fourth chapter is about music education, including7units. The fifth chapter includes3units which make the summary of the conclusion and discussions.This paper is the first time to do the research on PRAXIAL MUSIC EDUCATION:REFLECTIONS AND DIALOGUES in domestic, therefore, this paper will fill the academic blank of the research of this book, provide possibility of understanding this literature in music education profession, meanwhile it will deepen the understanding of praxial music philosophy, praxial music education philosophy and Elliott’s main views; it will even provide the theoretical analysis method in multidimensional insight for professionals, thus enrich the professional vision and theoretical knowledge, bringing enlightenment to the Chinese theoretical research of music education.
