Maijia’s novel Daojian, which has been writing for eight years, was finallypublished by the end of2011. Daojian is claimed to be the last novel ofMaijia’s Secret Service series.From Jiemi to Daojian, Maijia’s Secret Service series has caused greatrepercussions on the society. These works which won a number of awardsare appreciated by both academics and the public. It can be found that acomplete memory framework within Maijia’s novels throughout his serious.Maijia’s novels are start from his personal memories. It recalls the memoriesof the past war ages like the civil war between Chinese Nationalist Party andCommunist Party, the Anti-Japanese War and the Korean War, which arefilled with the writer and the readers’ personal emotion and collectivememories. Under this background, the writer makes an effort to build plausiblememories about the past and showcase the history. On the aspect of thecontent of the series, Maijia’s memory thinking is reflected that he has putpersonal feelings into the collective memories which has recalled the readersa sense of identity and familiarity. On the aspect of the formation of the series,Maijia has displayed the specific memory forming progress by practicing avariety of different narrative skills Memory Simulation. Maijia has saidthat writing by brain can guarantee the basic quality of novels and he does nottrust his feelings, thus, he rather use brain to write. Maijia’s distinctivenarrative skills on memories have made the readers cannot tell the reality andthe illusion. Sometimes, it seems as if the readers had entered into anelaborate designed secret history designed by the writer, and sometimes thereaders feels as if they were the outsiders who can watching everythinghappen like omniscient, that is where the unique power are in Maijia’s series.Take an overview of Maijia’s novels we can find that his works has carriedmemory contents and applied the memory methods, this special memorythinking makes the work filled emotion and much readable and proved valuable for cultural studies. All these reasons together make Maijia’s worksobtain acceptableness from both the academics and readers. Memory is notmerely belonging to individuals but historical and cultural. Maijia practices hisown preaches that literature have the function and value to be a carrier ofcultural memories; therefore, this paper is divided in four chapters based onMaijia’s memory framework.The introduction will list an overview of current studies of Maijia’s SecretService series. In the following section, the passage will present two reasonsin using memory theories to be the methodology. One reason is that the studyof memory theories gradually came to being systematic in oversea studiesand the other reason is due to the limitation of domestic memory theoreticalstudies. This section can be called the significance of this dissertation as well.The first chapter will firstly analyse the texts of Maijia’s novels whichcarrying personal memories. The following part will examine the collectivememories carried by Maijia’s series by describing how the writer put his ownmemories into the collective memories to make the readers feel sense ofidentity and familiarity.The second chapter is the core of this paper, it will directly describe howthe writer showcases the memory making process by practicing severalnarrative skills such as Memory Simulation. In this section, I will use somememory theories to explore the texts about Memory Simulation. On the onehand, three representative works are chosen for illustrating their internalmemory framework and memory rhetoric (Filing Cabinet Structure of Ansuan,Puzzle Structure of Fengsheng, Memoir Structure of Daojian). On theother hand, I consider Maijia’s Secret Service series as a whole to discuss theexternal relationship between his works. This part includes the repeatedcontent analysis and the analysis of Memory Field formed by the701specialdepartments.The subsequent chapter will demonstrate literature of being culturalstructure which has characteristics of memory cohesion and make a furtheranalysis on the reasons that literature can be considered a valid culturalmemory carrier. Moreover, this chapter will also point several items aboutrealistic significance caused by Maijia’s novels. Firstly, the series has been spread over the society by a number of memory carried media. Secondly,New Hero Images created by Maijia has rebuilt a heroic memory amongpublic. Last but not least, it will roughly discuss the relationship betweenMaijia’s works and the current interests.In the conclusion chapter, the author will make a review of this paper andput forward some problems in this dissertation and some progressionalpossibilities about this topic.
