| With the development of economic globalization, economic cooperation andcommunication is becoming increasingly frequent. Most business cooperation is achieved bymeans of interpersonal communication, so the use of effective and efficient language in thefield of business has been considered as a critical skill for the success of business. Amongvarious kinds of ways in business communication, business English presentations play anincreasingly important role and remain the most essential in international business activities.Nowadays the society in which we live is full of communication, therefore people alwaysachieve their tasks or reach some goals by communicating with others. When doing a job, nomatter what the field, and no matter how much you know about your job, specializedknowledge alone is not enough to guarantee success; communication skills are also vital. Onthe list of the importance of various factors in hiring decisions, oral communication skills wereranked on the top.Business presentations usually involve making report of a project to superior, introducingproducts to the customer or offering trainings to employees on their work, and so on. Thecontent of business presentation is very clear. It can be a project, a scheme, a product or astrategy. It is to explain ideas, state views, or put forward solutions, so they need not be shownin a way which involves many extensive examples with a variety of stylistic devices. Inaddition, as business presentations call for explicit and accurate statistics and facts to supportthe key points, there should not be many emotional or exciting elements in the presentationsfor the reason that it is made to convey information and convince the audience with facts andstatistics. Therefore, this thesis mainly aims at searching the strategies of effective businesspresentations mainly by analyzing Steve Jobs’ opening remarks on Apple WorldwideDeveloper Conference in2011.This thesis falls into five parts:Chapter One is devoted to the general elaboration of this study, which consists of theintroduction, aims and significance of the study.Chapter Two offers an overview of business presentation, including the definition, nature,function and classification of business presentation.In Chapter Three, a set of language features of Steve Jobs presentation aimed at achievinga successful business presentation is analyzed. In Chapter Four, it put more attention mainly focused on the techniques of Steve Jobs’business presentation, with steps one should follow before and during the presentation.Chapter Five includes the conclusion and limitation of this study. |
