The Han Dynasty stone-caved picture is a kind of stoneinscription which was engraved on architectures such as coffinchambers, ancestral halls and tomb statues. The subjects of thosestone-caved pictures involve every aspect of people’s life in HanDynasty. The Han Dynasty stone-caved pictures possess greatcultural relic value and very important historical value in studyinghistory, art, folklore and so on in the Han Dynasty. Based on theexisting research results, the author collects rubbings and digitalphotographs of Han Dynasty stone-caved pictures in differentplaces and regions, analyzes the background and characteristics ofevery sample, aiming at seeking the local or regional features ofthose stone-carved pictures and furthering the present study onthem.There are three parts in this thesis. Part One is the briefintroduction of Han Dynasty stone-caved pictures, which are mainlyabout the subjects on music and dance, and acrobatics. Theresearch methods utilized in this part involve collecting, sorting,analyzing and synthesizing. Part Two surveys all the materials anddata collected in terms of areas and regions. Part Three makes comparison among the Han Dynasty stone-caved pictures fromdifferent regions, utilizing the “double-evidence methodology” ofWang Guowei. Generally speaking, the thesis mainly focuses on theform and content of underground excavations, namely Han Dynastystone-caved pictures.In the end, the thesis puts forward some reflections andsuggestions to the topics as follows:1.Is there any interplay inrelationships among The Han Dynasty stone-caved pictures found indifferent regions?2. How to define the spatial-temporalcharacteristics of the special media of this art: stone?3. To whatextent can those Han Dynasty stone-caved pictures reflect thesocial reality of Han Dynasty?4. How to analyze the process ofencoding and decoding of the subjects and figures on those HanDynasty stone-caved pictures?...
