As a political office, Doctor was fist established in late Warring States period. In the following period of Han and Wei Dynasties, it continued development and improvement. Then it went into a new stage over the period of Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties. Based on the doctors of the Confucian classics studies and the evolution of political office, this dissertation focus on the existence condition of the special group and their role and influence in adopting the tradition of Confucianism.Compared with the former dynasty, the central government school was constantly changing in Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties. However, in order to adapt to needs of powerful family and imperial power, there were some new types, such as the Imperial Academy, zhongshuxue, huangzongxue besides the Imperial College. Consequently, the the doctors of the Confucian classics studies was classified into different levels based on the objects they instructed. Although the method of selection of them based on recommendation, recruiting and transition, the duty of them shifted from political property to learning officer property except the Chancellor of Commission for Education.The materials of doctors of the Confucian classics studies selected form the official historical records of Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties reveal that the number of them was consistent with the degree of the development of Imperial Academy. Although the overall number was vast, the long-term incumbents was much less, because some of them were appointed as original and transitional political office. Most of doctors of the Confucian classics studies were talented person including those who worked in fake jobs in this period. With other doctors who were appointed but not worked in the folk, they made up the important part of the development of the Confucian classics studies in Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties.At that time, especially the social structure of powerful family deeply influenced the central authority education and learning style. Confucian classics studies was still the key for powerful family to maintain their states although affected by the Metaphysics and Buddhism. And the family learning was the important reliance of the development of the Confucian classics studies. Consequently, most doctors came form powerful families.The contribution of doctors of the official education made was limited, but this was not enough to cover up their talents and intelligence. On balance, with the efforts of official school, family learning, private learning and the Confucian classics teachers, doctors of the Confucian classics studies made a great contribution to the development of the Confucian classics in Wei, Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties.
