| This report was based on the author’s translating practice of Astoria, a novel by Washington Irving (1783-1859), the Father of American literature of19th century. The author of the report translated Chapter Four, Five and Six of Astoria and gave her justification by application of Relevance Theory. The author summarizes the writing style of the novel and analyzes the problems encountered during her translation and puts forward her solutions to the problems under the guidance of Relevance Theory.This report consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the translation project, including the introduction of Washington Irving and his writing style. The second chapter introduces the translation process. The third chapter analyzes some examples from translating chapters of Astoria under the guidance of Relevance Theory, both at the lexical level and at syntactic level. The final chapter summarizes her findings from the translation process. |
