| Eileen Chang is an indispensable female writer in the history ofChinese modern literature. Her book “Legend†let a lot of people knowher name and like her work. She uses her unique creative perspective andexquisite writing to outline the old family stories for us. These stories arecalled “legendâ€, largely because unique description of female images inEileen Chang’s work, whether written from the missing father angle orwrite the “Nora†type of female images in the old family, she can do thiswith great facility. This paper’s research aim is the female images inEileen Chang’s works, by using the method of feminist theory and textreading. In the process of female discourse in different years, we paymore attention on the female images in Eileen Chang’s works and analyzethe related factors about the “Nora†type images. In a word, we showpeople’s inner spirits, explain its role in the history chain of modernliterature and lead people to think about the women’s survival conditionand women’s future on the basis of better understanding of EileenChang’s works. The concept of Nora earliest from the Norway dramatist Ibsen’swork, this named A Doll’s House. In this drama, the heroine Nora wantsto get rid of her husband’s control, she wants to be independent in moneyand life. She refuses to be a puppet. She wants to be a true human that canpursue her life; finally she leaves her home to seek her own life. With theinfluence of A Doll’s House, there is a wave of Nora wind set off inChinese literary world, such as Lu Xun, Hu Shi, Lu Yin, Shi Pingmei andother writers have created a series female image of Nora during the May4thMovement. There are also some Nora’s images in Eileen Chang’sworks, the characteristics of these female images are optimistic, positiveand eager to pursue the freedom of the liberation of progress and thought.They want to desire their own happy life. There is a certain pattern ofNora images during the May4thMovement period that is leavehome—pursue love and freedom—(by the oppression of economy)backhome. But the Nora’s pattern in Eileen Chang’s works is different fromthe Period of May4thMovement, these Nora’s images escaped from theirhusband or father’s family to pursue their own happiness and love,although they also face the temptation of the material life or the mercy of ethics, in the face of these questions, they try their best to strive for andstruggle constantly to make their own happiness. Although the process isvery hard, and also be faces with failure, but their optimism and positivespirits are still worth our attention. The term “women†is not a collectionfemale compatriot of pronouns, but it presents the best reflection ofwomen in society. Eileen Chang wants the readers to pay more attentionto concern the female’s survival status and destiny through her creation ofthe female images in her works.The whole paper is divided into three parts. The third section discusses Eileen Chang’s Nora idea from the relationshipbetween Eileen Chang and the city, the noble birth of Eileen Chang andthe deep understanding of Nora separately. The third part is theconclusion; give a clear answer on Eileen Chang and her works based onthe summary of the main idea of the whole paper. |
