The Exploration Of Nature Conservation Movement In Britain (1870—1914)

The nature conservation has a long history and significant impact in Britain, and the development of the nature conservation is a procedure by gradually development and expansion as well. With the far-reaching impact on nature conservation movements and conservation ideas, as well as some special conditions in19th century. The thriving of romantic ecological view, attack to the dark aspect of Industrial Revolution, and the rising interest for nature history, bring people further follow with interest nature and nature conservation,the first stirring of a nature conservation movement could be appeared in the face of common people.This dissertation is divided into four major parts:firstly, the historical review of the nature conservation, secondly, the develop state of the nature conservation movement, thirdly, the point and impediment factor in the movement, and its contribution and influence. The historical review of the nature conservation part reveals the far-reaching impact by the early nature conservation movements and conservation idea. The second part, firstly introduces the constitutional force, including the famous two societies:Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, National Trust Society for the Promotion of Nature Reserves, and then expounds the each activity of nature conservation movement, including the animal and plant protection, landscape and history heritage protection and propagates nature conservation information. Through the analysis of the second part, the third part concludes the principles that the point and impediment factor in the movement. The fourth part bases on the first three parts, from two aspects of the conservation movement contributions and the effect of the late British conservation enterprise to detailed analysis. To illustrate this movement that attempt change the British basic concept, how to in the movement process to survive and to expand in adversity, has achieved remarkable success, and to expand its influence.As a first widely nature conservation in Britain, it has a remarkable effect. We can see that facing the severe nature and environment crisis, its inexorable trend to protect. As for a folk force, it gives priority to launch the movement. It bases on sorts of protection organization, relies on society and government power in Britain’s nature conservation enterprise. The movement is carried out, not only attracted a lot of people involved, and the protection movement is also accepted by the whole society rapidly, received widely publicity. The nature conservation movement as a great contribution to British natural protection, and gave a significant impact to the late nature conservation development.
