Recently, diffractive optics is widely researched by institutions all over the world. The application of theory of diffractive optics and optics lens with diffractive structure to traditional imaging optical system makes it have high diffractive efficiency and good dispersion character. The combination with refractive optics can produce a hybrid diffractive-refractive optical system, then it can significantly compress optical path of the system, make it lighter, and optimize structure and performance of the product. Also, it will give designers more freedom to design and materials to choice. Especially, it has a wide range of applications in the field of thermal imaging.Initially, LSI technology is used to produce binary optical element, then kinds of other technologies, like direct writing, gray scale mask and machine turning are developed. Every technology has advantages and disadvantages of accuracy, error tolerance, efficiency, material choice etc. The article mainly researches the manufactory of diffractive optical element with single point diamond turning (SPDT). We want to find the best choice of parameters of SPDT through the manufacturing process and error analysis, and give guidance for large-scale application and industrialization.Chapterl includes binary optics and its history, gives general application of BOE in image system, and introduces SPDT technology. It is the content of research works and basic method. As the basis of theoretical analysis for following works, Chapter2is mainly about vector diffraction theory and scalar diffraction theory in the field of diffractive optics. Chapter3talks about imaging property of DOE and gives some parameters according to diffraction theory. In Chapter4, manufacturing process of DOE is discussed, mainly introduces SPDT technology, and in the research, samples with a series of different process parameters are manufactured, which is for the analysis of following chapters. In Chapter5, samples are tested with several ways, and equipment based on surface profiler with high measuring precision is developed. Chapter6is error analysis, to find out the reasons and impact of errors through imaging property of DOE, process condition, and diffraction theory. Finally, in chapter7, summary and prospect of the research is given.
