Focusing on the shortages of cellulose acetate (CA) membrane in application,layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are introduced in CA matrix to prepare composite,in which adjusting between structures and properties. The main research results arelisted as follows.Glycine intercalated layered double hydroxide (MgAl-Gly LDH) crystals wereprepared by coprecipitation. They have layered structure with different d-spacing anduniform particle size in nanometer. The effects on the structure and morphology ofLDHs crystals were investigated, such as the glycine anions concentration, thefeeding mole ratio of Mg and Al, the pH value and temperature of the reactionsolution. The best reaction condition was obtained. Meanwhile, CO32-intercalatedmagnesium-aluminum metal layered double hydroxides (MgAl-CO3LDH) byhydrothermal method. They have the micron grade size, uniform particle, structureneat.The different dimensions of LDHs were respectively mixed in solution with CAto prepare composite membranes. They are good uniform membrane until the weightcontent of LDHs is15wt%in CA matrix. The addition of LDHs developed thethermal stability of CA. In mechanical properties, micro-sized LDHs can increase themodulus of CA membrane. The membrane added with nano-sized LDHs can obstructthe water vapour from permeating, due to good dispersion of nano-sized LDHs andstrong contact with CA. However, the membrane added with micro-sized LDHs canimprove the permeation of water vapour, due to producing pore from separationbetween micro-sized LDHs and CA matrix.
