The five-strand tundish in a steel plant uses different control velocity device according to different steel. Because flow control device is not reasonable, so billet quality problems often appear in the actual production process, especially non-metallic inclusions problem in the production of high quality steel. Tundish is an important metallurgical·reactor in the continuous casting process, and has a very important role in improving the quality of liquid steel, balanced liquid steel temperature and improve casting success rate. Therefor, optimizing the internal structure of tundish to improve the continuous casting process and improve billet quality has a very important practical significance.In this paper, the flow field and the temperature field in the tundish are studied using Fluent software and water model experiment. By changing the settings of the flow control device to analyze the flow and temperature distribution of molten steel in the tundish, and optimize tundish internal structure.The result shows that the using flow control device currently is unreasonable. The molten steel flow situation in tundish is better improved after optimization. The flow characteristics of each strand are close and the consistency is in good agreement. The volume fraction of piston zone is increased from14.31%to23.85%and the volume fraction of dead zone is decreased from18.53%to10%.The ratio of the volume fraction of the piston area and dead zone is increased from0.77to2.38.
