With the development of economy and people’s living level, people have put forward thedemand for food. Food industry is an important part of national economy, the rapiddevelopment of food industry has brought the birth of a large number of food additiveswidely used. The use of food additives in food processing and manufacturing process can notonly improve the food’s color, smell,taste and shape, it also can prevent food deteriorationprematurely to prolong shelf life. Using food additives in some food can also increase itsnutritional ingredients. Food additives has become an indispensable element of modern foodindustry development.Food additives to improve food quality and extend shelf life has played a very importantrole. But in recent years, due to excessive use of food additives, food safety problems hasaroused more attention. The negative effect on food additives have been more understood.Food additives in food industry is not only of great significance, but it is closely linked withour life. So we must pay more attention to the food additives, and it is necessary to study itseffect.The experts and scholars to study the use of food additives have come into a moredetailed scientific stage. They not only pay attention in the scientific and technological leveland the laws level, but also concerned about the moral and ethical issues related to it, as abranch of science and technology ethics it is gaining more attention and study. This paper isbased on the ethics of science and technology, to explore the significance of food additives’production and use. This paper has put forward some suggestions and opinions, at the sametime it also hopes to provide some more objective and fair understanding of food additives.Problems of science and technology ethics is an important content of philosophy of scienceand technology. Studying the ethical ideology of science and technology is useful to establisha correct view of science and technology, it also has important sense to master method onscientific party for us. The use of food additives is an important link in the process of foodproduction, food security is tight to the people’s livelihood. As a series of problems caused bythe use of food additives and the ethics of science and technology are closely related,therefore, whether in theory or in reality it is necessary to study the production and use offood additives.
