Transdermal drug delivery offers an attractive alternative to theconventional drug delivery methods of oral administration and injection. However, the stratum corneum acts as a barrier that limits the penetration ofsubstances through the skin. Application of ultrasound to the skin increasesits permeability (sonophoresis) and enables the delivery of various substancesinto and through the skin. Ultrasound has been used extensively for medicaldiagnostics and to a certain extent in medical therapy (physiotherapy, ultrasonic surgery, hyperthermia). Nevertheless, it has only recently becomepopular as a technique to enhance drug release from drug delivery systems. Anumber of studies suggest the use of ultrasound as an external mean of deliveringdrugs at increased rates and at desired times. Objective: To observe the effects of ultrasound conductimeter treatment onpatients with mixed hemorrhoid postoperative pain. Methods: Of120patients with mixed hemorrhoid postoperative pain,60weretreated with transdermal administration (treatment group), and the otherswere treated with oral administration (control group). All patients wereassessed with Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and clinic curative effect assessment. The therapeutic effects and side effects were observed. Results: Both two methods were available for treating the patients with mixedhemorrhoid postoperative pain. The effective rate in treatment group wassignificantly higher than that in control group (P <0.05). The patients hadno complaints for transdermal administration, and this method had the advantagesof a shorter treatment course and less side effects. Conclusion: The effect of transdermal administration by ultrasoundconductimeter is better than that of oral administration.
