Assisted Reproductive Technology refers to substituting some step or all steps in humanreproduction to modern medical technologies and methods. This technology brings hope andhappiness to thousands of non-reproductive family, but also causes a series of ethicalproblems and law confusions to society, families and individuals.These ethical problems andlaw confusions deserve our careful attention and solution. This thesis aims to study ethicalproblems and their causations in use of Assisted Reproductive Technology to search forcountermeasures.Assisted Reproductive Technology mainly consists of Artificial Insemination, In VitroFertilization and Embryo Transfer and technologies derived from it and Clone, in detailsincluding Artificial Insemination, In Vitro Fertilization, Embryo Transfer, cryostorage ofovum, semen and embryo, Gamete In Fallopian Transfer, surrogacy, Intracytoplasmic SpermInjection, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, clone, human clone and so on. At present,semen bank, surrogacy, clone and human clone are the hottest topics. Since its coming intobeing, semen bank has caused a series of ethical problems, mainly like commercialization ofsemen, semen bank of celebrities and increase on the unethical rate of close relative matingand contradictions and troubles to regional area for abuse of semen bank. Surrogacy also hasits own ethical problems, like commercialization of surrogacy, challenge to the family ethicalorder for the complicated relatives of blood strain and parenting strain in law and harm to theinterest of the babies by surrogacy. Human clone hasn’t yet been realized, but we can easilysee many kinds of ethical problems caused by the realization of it, mainly like change on thebasic human sexual ethical relationship, harm to the diversity of genes, significant change onreproducing methods, influence unexpected on traditional family pattern and greattransformation of human society.The reasons why Assisted Reproductive Technology can cause so many social ethicalproblems mainly are moral losing of professionals, lacking of responsibility from patients andtheir families, supervising deficiency of ethical committees and imperfection of regulations. Ifwe want to make Assisted Reproductive Technology better serve human beings, we must findout solutions for these ethical problems. Methods in both ethic and law are necessary to solve them: at the aspect of ethic, strengthen the moral self-discipline of professional personnel,heighten ethical responsible awareness of patients, enhance moral supervision of ethicalcommittee and boost ethical intendance of social public voice; at the aspect of law, strengthenthe control of respective administrative law in execution, improve the control of civil law inapplicability to really protect the interest of patients and enhance the control of criminal lawin severely beating illegal business. Only in these ways can we minimize the ethical problemscaused by Assisted Reproductive Technology and make it better serve human beings.
