Phoenix pattern is an important pattern in the ancient Chinese decoration art. It have been decorated in jade in the Neolithic age. In Shang and Zhou dynasties, the Phoenix pattern decoration reached a new height in bronze. This decorative pattern appeared in lacquer ware,porcelain, fabric and so on in later dynasties too. The correct interpretation of this decorative pattern is an effective and important way to understand ancient Chinese culture.In this paper, Phoenix pattern in bronze ware in Shang and Zhou Dynasty will be explanated fromshape, origin, development, evolution, connotation, typesand meaning from a new angle,making use of the Graphics,archaeological typology method,to provide new ideas for the study of culture and religion in Shang and Zhou Dynasty society.
