Feng Yansi had played an extremely important part in history of portry and madesignificant contribution for the development of poetry. With a unique style, Yansi Feng createdthe combination of lovesick and farewell and grief experienced during the turbulent days andcombination of patriotism and minster’s anxious feeling, and poured awareness feelings ofunexpected environment into lovers’ worries. Because of his thick feeling and open-wideprospect, his poetry has surpassed the tender quality of “HuaJian Ci-poetry”. By expressingdisconsolate, depressed feelings during entertainment activities, he has broke a brand-newpath towards the wide world during the limited period field, opened the success gate for theleap of period, and provided a new way for the development of period. This unique periodcreation style was closely related to his turbulent life in South Tang, to his patriotic heart andsensitive character. This thesis, composed by three parts, has emphasized Yansi Feng’s tragedystyle and its causes. The meaning of the tragedy affection in Yansi Feng’s poetry has been discussed in thefirst part of this thesis. This affection could be divided into two categories. First, the awarenessof the meaning of life which includes his subjective perception towards human affairs, his ownphilosophy illustrating human life and positive attitude in front of frustrations. The meaning ofthese three-fold feelings mirrored out his observation and understanding of nature goes deeplygradually. The other category of Yansi Feng’s classic style is the awareness of this objectiveworld includes minsters’ anxious about the future of his home and country. The poetry is amirror of deep feelings generated in the tragedy fate and desolate and angry mode in thesituation of domestic trouble and foreign invasion. The anxious feelings of human life andcountry fate interact with each other and reflect the unique and consistency of Feng’s poetrysubject selection.Reflection of artistic conception, expression made by rhetoric method of metaphor andassociation and contrast between happiness and sadness of Yansi Feng’s period has beenanalyzed in this part. First of all, image could be the most minor as well as flexible in thepoetry works. The selection and combination between different types of conceptions canreflect authors’ composing intension to the largest extent. Conceptions of loneliness, coldnessand downfall are relatively common to be felt in Feng’s work which reflects his lonely andnegative mode. Secondly, rhetoric methods of metaphor and association in his works could tellus that his spiritual sustenance was relatively more private and implicit. Yansi Feng’s anxioustowards home and country, his yearning for emperor, his sadness towards his life and his confusion about political career are all expressed by the metaphor and association methodsubtly and implicitly. Thirdly, using happiness for sadness expression can help him to amplifyhis grief so as to highlight the characteristic of tragedy style. The origin of Feng’s tragedy style is analyzed in the aspects of time, region, tragedy fateof his own and manner coming down from late Tang dynasty in the third part. The trait ofsouth Tang’s time era and region has affected Yansi Feng’s writing style deeply and offered asolid foundation of reality and culture for him to form a tragedy charm. Furthermore, tragedyfate of his own is strongly related to his writing prospect. Frustrated surviving experience andconflicts between parties in the government have triggered his deep feeling towards humanlife. Although taking a political position, he could contribute nothing but witness the tragedybroke out. Therefore negative mode had taken a leading position in his heart. Finally, feelingsof the ending of late Tang dynasty have dyed a negative and worried color to his spirit whichcoordinates the atmosphere of that era. Under the impact of these factors, tragedy style ofYansi Feng’s poetry is generated vividly with no doubt.
