Teaching Chinese as a foreign language is a kind of language teaching. It is to teach language as main contents, as well as putting the culture as carrier. When we learn a language, we not only learn the pronunciation, grammar etc, but also need to know its culture background. The language ability of people is directly influenced by the degree that he knows and masters the culture of this language. The teaching target of teaching language as a foreign language is foreigner, and there must be a series of cultural problems in process of Chinese language teaching. For a variety of reasons of geography, history, nations and so on, there must be cultural differences in different countries. So it is important to introduce the Chinese-Western cultural background in teaching procedure.This paper reveals the importance and significance of the Chinese and western culture from three aspects, which are the relationship of language and culture, the purpose and nature of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and the difference of getting information. The purpose of teaching Chinese as a foreign language is to help Chinese learner communicate in Chinese under cultural crossing background. The paper briefly tells the effect of cultural differences on using language. On this basis, the paper is to explore the teaching Chinese as a foreign language from two aspects which are the application of cultural comparison in teaching and practical methods of teaching. This paper introduces the application of comparison between the east and west culture in the teaching Chinese as a foreign language from two aspects which are vocabulary and grammar and puts forward two kinds of teaching methods which are modular teaching method and seek commonality and adjustment teaching method. It’s good to introduce the comparison between Chinese and western culture when we teach a language. In author’s opinion, it’s not only to make students know the characteristics of Chinese culture, better understand and use Chinese but also to improve the methods of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and promote the activities of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
