Wen Tong with his courtesy name of Ke Yu, is the famous poet, painter and calligrapher of Northern Song Dynasty. He is from Yong Tai of Sichuan (now Yanting in Sichuan). He also has the literary name of Mr. Smile. People also call him Mr. Shi Shi. Born with remarkable gifts, he is one of the rare artist with so many talents in the history of our country. The great poet Su Shi once praised that Wen Tong had four great skills of poetry, Chuci (the song of Chu), cursive handwriting and painting. His poetry is the link connecting the poetry of Tang and Song dynasties, which gave a significant influence on the talented people in Song dynasty. With no artificial polish, Wen Tong’s poetry is fresh and beautiful. Although just a few number of works were handed down, the concise and simple style of his articles are the important clue for studying all aspects of the Northern Song Dynasty. From both his poetry and articles, This paper will analyze the historical origins of its poetry and its position in the history of the Song Dynasty Literature and the whole history of Chinese literature and the impact on future generations.The first chapter presents the status and heritage of Wen Tong’s poetry. Faced with impressive fruits at the Tang dynasty. The poets of Song dynasty had no choice but open a new field and also gained prosperity. Wen Tong was one of the representative poets at that time, he made Han Yu’s poetry style as the example, stressing that the texts gave significant social influence. His poetries were deeply influenced by Tao Yuanming and Wang Wei which made paintings of poetry and poetry in paintings. Learn from the great poet Du Fu, he created the exact words and sentences and the spirit of realism. The work has a strong sense of reality and sense of social responsibility.The second chapter focuses on analysis of the poetry of language of Wen Tong. Wen Tong is good at writing all types of genres."Dan Yuan set" is now included238articles created by Wen Tong, including12categories of13stylistic points in the "Classical Prose ", which deserved to be called" Encyclopaedia ". The content of these works related to political, economic, and cultural fields. For the "struggle of the party disaster" in Northern Song Dynasty, a large part of these works had been lost, but the remaining ones are still can be used to as the first hand and raw material to study the political, economic, cultural and language status of the Northern Song dynasty, which are worth our tasting.
