| Wa nationality mainly lives in the remote mountain areas in thesouth of Yunnan Province, also near and along the border with Thailandand Burma. It’s just because they are located in such faraway areasthat they still keep a relatively primitive state of life in such a rapidlydeveloping era. Wa’s aesthetic culture and folk aesthetic codes, whichcover ancient rock paintings, clothes adornments, architecture andsculpture, all alive in harmony with reality.Since the oil painting of “Washan Renjia†by Sun Jingbo, a numberof artists have settled in Wa mountains and created countless works ofart in connection with Wa culture. Wa’s epic poetry Sigangli, woodendrum, the “moba†and Awa mountain are typical representations ofWa’s culture, but oil paintings which can reflect these themes are rare.The writer, as a graduate majored in oil painting, also with realexperience of living and working in Awa mountain areas, strives toincarnate his perception and feeling of Wa’s culture in the oil paintings.With Wa’s culture as a starting point, this paper explores the oilpainting creation themed Wa nationality in a tentative way from theaspects of content, realistic painting languageã€structural formation aswell as local color, so as to deeply research Wa’s oil paintings. It’s alsohoped that his oil paintings can manifest the unique charm of Wanationality, and that more artists can give attention to Wa, depict andreveal a real Wa nationality, thus continuously enriching oil paintingsrelated to the national minorities in China and better demonstratingtheir spiritual outlook to the world. |
