| As the national strength of China and the Chinese language continue to heat up,more and more people around the world begin to learn Chinese. The Confucius Institute,as the medium of spreading the Chinese language and the Chinese culture establishedoverseas by the Chinese government, has developed rapidly. At the end of2007, Madrid,the capital city of Spain, formally established the first Confucius Institute on theSpanish mainland. Currently, with the assistance of the China National Office forTeaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL), China and Spain have jointly set upsix Confucius Institutes across the country. However, the development of the ConfuciusInstitute of Madrid, which was the first Confucius Institute established in Spanish, wasless prominent than those of other Confucius Institutes. This thesis aims at providingsolutions to the problems with regard to other Confucius Institutes through interview onteachers of the Confucius Institute in Madrid and surveys of students presenting bothachievements and urgent problems in the recent development of Madrid ConfuciusInstitute.The thesis is divided into three parts: the first part introduces the reasons andmeaning of choosing the topic, research ideas and methods, and a literature review ofstudies of the Confucius Institute in other countries. The second part conducts a briefintroduction on development of the Madrid Confucius Institute and an investigation onthe institute. First, it learns learned the basic knowledge including enrollment,curriculum, cultural activities and other aspects through the teachers of MadridConfucius Institute. Second, the development of the Madrid Confucius Institute isfurther investigated by issuing questionnaires to the students. At last, it summarizes theachievements, difficulties and problems throughout the development of the MadridConfucius Institute in recent years. The third part provides solution to these problems.I hope this paper presents the current development status of the Confucius Institutein Spain, helps you understand the situation of Chinese education in Spain and providescertain references to the development of Madrid Confucius Institute and theestablishment of successive Confucius Institutes. |
