Béla Bartók(1881~1945)was a famous Hungarian nationalism composer, pianist,music critics and music educator in20thcentury. His music creation is rooted in the soil offolk music, and he also combine the folk music with western modern composing techniques,from which he formed his own music style and created a series of great works. So he wasregarded as the founder of the Hungarian folk music, which established his important role inthe20th century world music.Bartok paid great intention to the string quartet and wrote six string quartets in his life.Each piece of his music is special, and they all expressed his rich inner thoughts, feelings."fifth string quartet" is created at the end of the summer of1934,which is entrustedby Elisabeth Sprague Coolidge. Bartok composed this one only in a month. On April8th,1935, Kulich Quartet performed this work for the first time in Washington."Fifth stringquartet" is the work in Bartok’s later years. In this period was the composer at maturity. Hismusic style is stable. We can clear understanding of this period music composingcharacteristics through the study of works harmony. This thesis will talk about his "fifth stringquartet". By making an in-depth analysis of this initial work, we will finally find the truevalue of this piece of string reprise.This thesis consists of three parts, including the preface, the text and the epilogue. Thesignificance of the selected topic, the domestic and foreign research status of Bartok areintroduced in the Introduction part. The text is divided into three movements:the first movement presents the Bartok’s music creation,His music creation is dividedinto four periods, which were the various periods of music works and the characteristics ofbriefly discussed,and briefly discussed the significance of the fifth string quartet in hiscreation;The second movement talks about harmony technique in the fifth string quartet in thispaper in the view of the work mode, the chord material, harmonic mode, and continuousharmonic.The third movement summarizes the influence of the folk music on his "fifth stringquartet" revelation and on his harmony techniques, finding that Bartok’s harmony techniquesis based on the folk music and the traditional innovation, which revealed Bartok’s uniquewriting style.The last part is on the basis of the above three parts. Four aspects about harmony techniques in the fifth string quartet are generally summarized, further illustrating thetheoretical value and far-reaching influence of his "fifth string quartet".This thesis is based on the analysis of Bartok’s the "fifth string quartet" and the every efforthe has made through the music ontology analysis. We can include creative characteristics ofhis "fifth string quartet", and summarize the works of some laws and characteristics which areon the use of the folk music elements and previous studies, in order to make a breakthroughboth in depth and breadth.
