The Image In The Mirror, The Western Self-portrait Phenomenon Analysis

Self-portrait as a unique art form, has been favored by different periods of artists.In theart history list of the world,since ancient times there are many artists have left a wonderful"signature".The Western self-portrait in the world painting is unique,since the Renaissance,thecreation of self-portrait is the inevitable theme by almost of every painter.Therefore,the paperput the Western self-portrait art as the object of study,around the development ofself-portrait,through theoretical analysis and case studies,to generalize the self-portrait’sphenomenon characteristic in the period of western.The paper is based on the subjectivity theory of Lacan (mirror theory,linguistictheory),according to Lacan’s theory,he explained the subjectivity is actually a"pseudo subject",isnothing exists.Based on Lacan’s theory,we find that the self-portrait is not a confirmation bypainter,but a subjective processing "Mask",it is a "false picture" by "pseudo subject".Fromdescription of ideal portrait in the Renaissance to express the other’s desire in the early Moderntimes,until to the Modern and Post-modern that have uncertain meaning on symbolic link,theself-portrait is a "false picture",it has been used to disguise oneself and disappear in there.It isthe key and unique of this paper.The article is divided into three chapters:the first chapter is the interpretation of self-portraitart, mainly introduces the definition and the historical background of self-portrait;the secondchapter is a analysis of the self-portrait art phenomenon,mainly introduced Lacan’s mirrortheory and linguistic theory;the third chapter is the key,according to the timeline,respectivelyelaborated the self-portrait phenomenal characteristic of the Renaissance,early Modern,Modernand Post-modern,through the discussion in this chapter,draw a conclusion in the last.The lastpart is the conclusion,which summarizes the theoretical reflection of the core of the problem.
