This study originated in a paradox, why women suffering domestic violence did notchoose to leave the violent family?The so-called domestic violence is the perpetratorbeaten, tied up, mutilated, forced restriction of personal freedom, or other means, tocause certain harm to the consequences of physical, mental and other aspects of theirfamily members.Persistent, recurrent domestic violence constitutes abuse.To answerthis question, this study used qualitative research methods in author’s most familiarhome:Zongyang county of Anqing City in Anhui Province, as the survey points tocollect case information, case interviews, combined with the acquisition of socialworkaid and other related theories, this research theme of domestic violenceconducted in-depth study.In order to collect detailed and accurate case information,this study spent a lot of time to collect cases and is adopted mainly to a depth caseinterviews with the method, access to use the semi-structured questionnaire, subjectsinterviewed include:1)women suffer from long-term domestic violence;2) theperpetrators of long-term domestic violence against women;3) the neighborhood andfriends around the domestic violence;4) The relevant administrative agency, such aslocal Women’s Federation;5) the person in charge of the relevant law enforcementagencies, such as the courts.In order to ensure the authenticity and reliability of theevent,the author has interviewed the person concerned and the surrounding witness todomestic violence, and through interviews of the relevant person in charge of theadministrative and law enforcement agencies the author grasped the overall situationof domestic violence in the region as a whole so as to verify that whether the abusedwomen who do not choose to leave in the long-term domestic violence is in a helplessstate, whether the learned helplessness theory assumptions and analysis can apply tothe battered women.The article tries to analyze reasons why the battered women indomestic violence don’t leave, explore the applicability of learned helplessness theoryunder the social work intervention perspective,and revise learned helplessness theoryframework.This study found that the combination of the theoretical framework of systemtheory and learned helplessness model is basically applicable to the analysis of thehelpless state of the battered women in China’s urban long-term domesticviolence.The interview did find that the majority of battered women in a closed familysystem, after the long-term violence that cannot be control, copy the mode of interaction with the perpetrators and get out of touch with the outside support system,which led to battered women in the moodcognitive and behavioral changes, mooddepression, pessimism, inability to get out of domestic violence environment.Toreverse learned helplessness state requires changes in the environment, the batteredwomen need to start from the resources around them, such as social supportsystems.The battered women mostly show resistance to social support systems around,or to some extent, tensions appear in interacting with the social support system,whichneed intervention of professional systems such as social workers. Through analysis oflearned helplessness situation of battered women, This article called for theintroduction of social workers in agencies stationed in small towns to help batteredwomen to change their cognitive and behavioral mode and use the external networksupport rationally under the advantage perspective, and finally to the state of"self-help".
