Dynamic interactions exist between religion and politics in American public life. NewChristian Right (NCR), a conservative religious movement which features an activepolitical pursuit, has been exerting influence on various aspects of American politicalsystem since its rise in the1970s. Being a socially conservative force, NCR takesabortion as one of its top concerns by engaging in the pro-life movement. Based on astudy of the pro-life movement in America, the thesis makes a thorough examinationof the abortion policies in America, the roots, strategies and political changes ofNCR·s involvements in pro-life movement. The study concludes that divisive as theabortion issue, the pro-life movement will steer toward a moderate direction and thepro-life movement will reach beyond the political area. NCR possesses little chance toget its advocacies in full play in American politics, while the influence of NCR, withebbs and flows, will endure in American political system.
