This paper is aimed at understanding of the social worker’s professional identityand its influence factors in order to put forward advices to enhance the professionalidentity of social work as well as stabilize social worker’s team. The multi-stagerandom sampling was adopted and questionnaire survey was conducted among87social workers randomly selected22private NGOs in Beijing. Additionally, six socialworkers in the private NGOs with high professional identity and over three years ofwork experience were selected as the respondents of the depth interviews.The following conclusions could be reached based on the results of quantitative and qualitative research: the professional identity of private NGO social workers is relatively high.The enhancement the professional identity of social workers could contribute to the improvement of professional loyalty and reduction of turnover intention. Except for age, demographic statistics as gender, hukou, education and Specialty background and indexes of current employment situation as length of service, certificate would not influence the professional identity of social workers significantly. Individual psychological factors as specialty identity, personality awareness, career motivation and wage satisfaction as well as social factors like social support, institutional culture were indicators with strong influential effects. This impact model was characterized of the dominant role of the individual factors and the subsidiary role of the social factors.Based on these findings, the appropriate recommendations from four aspects of the government, universities, NGOs and social workers were put forward to promote the social work professional identity and stabilize social worker’s team.
