Owing to the historical conditions, geographical environment, economicdevelopment, cultural and educational backgrounds and other reasons, high schoolEnglish learning difficulties still exist in the students who need concern and help inNorthern Shaanxi area where the economy and culture are relatively backward. In orderto effectively explore causes for English learning difficulties and make constructivemeasures to improve learning effect, the author chooses Yan’an Middle School andShiyan Middle School for study. Statistical related methods were used and a certainnumber of English learning difficulty students were chosen randomly. The researchmethods mainly include analysis of literature, questionnaire, interview and so on. Theresults of the survey are analyzed pedagogically, psychologically, and linguistically. Itwas found that learning environment, degree of efforts, psychological quality, learningstrategy and teachers’ quality are the reasons for English learning difficulties of thestudents in this area. The countermeasures suggested include: the teachers should inspireand motivate English learning difficulty students and arise their self determination andendurance of the effort; the teachers should guide and help the students their strategies’ inimproving their English learning methods; to create a good English learning environmentunder the help of the families and the society, to encourage the students to acquireextracurricular knowledge and make full use of various of resources; the teachersthemselves should improve their teaching concept and methods to attain the bestdevelopment of every English learning difficulty students; and finally the teachers shouldmake English learning difficulty students set up correct attribution to timely training.
