With the development of corpus linguistics, people discover that there exist a greatnumber of fixed or semi-fixed language structures with lexical and sentential characteristics inhuman language. Altenberg held a view that70%of natural discourses are realized throughlexical chucks. Yang Yuchen (1999) pointed out that90%of natural discourses are semi-fixedstructures. Lexical chucks, as the storage unit of language, are stored and retrieved as a wholeand play a very important role in both First Language Acquisition and Second LanguageAcquisition. The learners can make more accurate, fluent and idiomatic expression after theymaster abundant lexical chucks. In reaction to L1transfer phenomenon in L2acquisition, thethesis attempts to help students memorize lexical chucks by English-Chinese comparison. Thethesis combines literature research and empirical research together to explore the feasibility ofapplying English-Chinese lexical chucks comparison into English writing teaching.The research takes the students of grade one in Zhangzhou No.3Senior High School asexperimental object. Experimental class (EC) and controlled class(CC) are specially designed,each with50students. CC adopts the traditional teaching method while EC places specialemphasis on English-Chinese lexical chucks comparison teaching. The grades and thenumbers of chucks used by the students in the compositions before and after the experimentfrom CC and EG will be analyzed by using independent T-test in SPSS17.0. The experimentalresults see the improvement of students’ writing in both EC and CC after a term’s effort,however, the improvement in EC is more obvious. Therefore, it can be proved that thecomparative study of English and Chinese lexical chucks plays a positive role in senior highschool English writing teaching.
