The sense of humor, which is rather popular in contemporary western culture, is seen asa kind of characteristic as virtue widespreadly. Researches concerning sense of humor in theabroad are more abundant, and a certain research achievement has been obtained, whichmade the research of sense of humor to be more and more systematic. While to localresearchers, the studying realm of sense of humor is newer and great attractive. Besides, ithas lots of important functions, which are valued to people in the real life. Therefore,researches of sense of humor have important academic and actual significancy.We agure that the sense of humor is an integrated habitual tendency of cognizance,emotion and behavior during an individual’s processes of accepting, appreciating, expressingand creating humor. It has individual differences and includes four levels-humor accepting,humor appreciating, humor expressing and humor creating-which are arrayed from high tolow. Our researches began with interview, focusing group discussion and open questionnaireinquiry, after which we compared and integrated the results with the past ones, then measuredand measured again, and finally developed college student multi-level sense of humor scale.After these, we analysed the consistency and validity of the scale, and then verified itsmulti-level structure through the path-analysis primarily. Secondly, in order to furtherexamine the rationality and science of the structure, we compared and analyzed the differentlevels’ humorous grade points and selective tendency on four types of humor incitements, andeventually got partial differences among the levels. Thirdly, we successively carried on twoeye-movements study to achieve the differences on the initiatory token, the eyemovementpattern and the gaze pattern. At last, we got the differences of the levels on the abilities ofhumor comprehending and humor creating.In sum, the main results and conclusions of our studies are listed below:(1) College student multi-level sense of humor scale we developed is a feasible tool toevaluate college student’s sense of humor; The multi-level structure of sense of humor wasverified through the path-analysis primarily. (2) College students have basically gotten the abilities of accepting and appreciatinghumor, except the abilities of expressing and creating humor; College students’ whole senseof humor needs to be further exalted.(3) Compare to the students of humor accepting level, the ones of humor creating levelthought the materials presented were more humorous; The dissimilarity of humorous materialtypes shows remarkable influence on the humorous grade points. Students of humoraccepting level and the ones of humor creating level existed differences on choosing up thehumorous features, which reflected their dissimilarity of thinking: Compare with the formerthinking, the latter one was more active and fargoing.(4) While watching the humorous cartoon pictures with some words, there were nodifferences on the initiatory token between the two levels; But there were differences on theeyemovement pattern between them.(5) The humor creating level’s humor comprehending ability was higher than the humoraccepting level’s.(6) The humor creating level’s humor creating ability was higher than the humoraccepting level’s.(7) Based on the humor creating task, there were differences on the initiatory token andthe gaze pattern between the two levels; When participants watched the four different typesof humorous cartoon pictures, there were no differences existed on their eyemovementpattern.
