Based on multi-intelligence and constructivist theory, this thesis highlights how to train the students’logical thinking, including four elements:generalization, deductive reasoning and classification in English reading teaching and how to help the students apply logical thinking to solving questions in their reading comprehension. The main research questions addressed are:(1) What factors do cause senior students’poor reading skills?(2) Whether do English teachers and students believe that there is a link between the students’reading skills and logical thinking?(3) How do teachers train the students’logical thinking in English reading comprehension?(4) How do students apply logical thinking, including the ability of generalization, deductive reasoning and classification to solving questions in English reading?In the study, questionnaires were delivered to43English teachers and320students in Senior One. To monitor and prove the effect of the study, two classes were chosen (the experimental class and the control class) to conduct the teaching experiment for a period of one year.The data were collected and analyzed based on the results of the tests, questionnaires and interviews. The study shows that linguistic intelligence is closely linked with logical thinking competence. Besides, the training of the ability of logical thinking is beneficial to improving English reading comprehension.This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter introduces relevant researches at home and abroad and the definition of logical thinking, describing the connection between linguistic intelligence and logical thinking intelligence. The second chapter deals with the theoretical base of the thesis:multi-intelligence and constructivist theory. The third chapter explains the methods of the study and analyzes the data collected from questionnaires, interviews and test papers. The fourth chapter emphasizes the teaching ways, procedures and cases employed in the study. The fifth chapter is focused on the result of the experiment and major findings in the experiment.The detailed in-depth study of applying logical thinking to English reading teaching enables us to see that the training of logical thinking is an effective way to improve the ability of students’ reading comprehension.
