The switch is the core equipment of communication network, and with thedevelopment of IP technologies, traditional PSTN communication network also evolvesinto NGN communication network. The large capacity switch becomes more and moreimportant. At present, large capacity switch has completed transition from analogswitching to digital switching, and transiting from circuit switching to IP packetswitching. Using the IP packet switching technology, the large capacity switch canimprove the telephone communication network efficiency and switching node efficiency,expand the switching node capacity, and reduce the connection and the cost oftelecommunication.The large capacity switch has the important position and effect intelecommunication network, and it must have high reliability. Therefore, it’s gettingmore and more important, how to use the hot standby technology to improve thereliability of large capacity switch. Based on the domestic and foreign experience indesign of large capacity switch, mainly uses two kinds of hot standby technology,Online Dual (Multiple) backup, a single key components of backup.Through the research of key parts hot standby technology of large capacity switch,the realization of the large capacity switch on the no perceived hot standby. Largecapacity switch is the object of study, it based on IP packet switching technology, usingATCA technology architecture, three key components is switching board, mainprocessor board and connected board. In view of the key components of switch,according to the hot standby protocol, switching chip, FPGA technology, determine thehot standby technical scheme of IP packet switching large capacity switch, and focusedon the hardware and software detailed design of switching board. In the switching boardhardware design, architecture of switching board is composed of BCM56504switchingchip and XC6SLX75T FPGA chip; it realized the1000M IP data switching and hotstandby data channel selection. The FPGA software was developed by Verilogprogramming language, and realized the FPGA chip design of heart-beat detection,master/slave instructions, channel selection. In this paper, the technical aspects of the main solution to the:1. the switch key module for autonomous switching problem;2. the switch key module main standby switch cannot be the cause of theproblem of communication interruption;3. IP packet switching system data flow control;Based on the large capacity switch key components hot standby technologyresearch, and combination switch architecture, platform and function, the switchingmodule, the writer tests hot standby algorithms in real network environment. In the1000M bandwidth conditions, the maximum number of lost packet is3. This paperresearching achievements can provide the theoretical support and technical support.
