The conventional techniques in space mission design put greatemphasis on system reliability while the performance is usually quitelimited, which can barely meet the highly increasing computation demandfrom nowadays real-time applications.To solve this problem, a High Reliability Parallel MultiprocessorSystem for on-board signal processing is presented in this paper.The system uses a high-reliability FPGA as the control unit andseveral high performance DSPs as process units. This DSP-based system,with specially designed workflow and realization in DSP/BIOS, candynamically adapt its redundancy level according to varying radiationconditions to archive the best overall performance.Compare-point and Compare-queue mechanisms are designed toreduce comparing time and guarantee system’s reliability. Fast recoverymechanism will speed up the failure DSP’s recovery and improve theoverall system efficiency.Several parallel processing methods are designed for the on-boardsystem, based on different types of space missions.The evaluation results show that under a correlation function basedbenchmark test, the proposed multiprocessor system can provide apotential of high processing capacity with the promise of requiredreliability.
