Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a kind of wireless network composed of a largenumber of micro sensor nodes, which can monitor and collect various kinds ofinformation of monitoring objects and then pass to users for analyzing and use. WSNusually works in special or harsh environment where people can not get close to, it doesnot require a fixed network support, and has the advantages of rapid deployment andself-healing capability. However, since the nodes are resource restricted, the network isself-organized without control center, and topology changes frequently, the networkmanagement of WSN is much more complex than the general. In order to reduce theenergy consumption of WSN nodes, prolong the network life, realize its safe, stable andefficient operation, this paper decide to make the research on WSN networkmanagement.Firstly, this paper made deep research and analysis on the network managementarchitectures characteristics of WSN: centralized, distributed and hierarchical.Combined with WSN characteristics as well as the problems exist in deployment,operation and maintenance, hierarchical WSN network management architecture andcommunication model were designed. Secondly, considering the reasonable topologicalstructure can effectively reduce energy consumption and communication interference,according to Radio Energy Dissipation Model(REDM), this paper designedLoad-balanced Hierarchical Topology Control Algorithm(LHTCA), the algorithm caneffectively solve the failure of the cluster header, reduce WSN cluster-formingfrequency, balance the energy consumption of network nodes, thereby extend thenetwork lifetime.On the basis of this, this paper designed Hierarchical Wireless SensorNetwork Management Protocol(HWSNMP), and detailedly descriped WSNmanagement information base(MIB), HWSNMP had compact management object datatype, protocol operation type as well as message format, and adopted ModifiedEncoding Rules(MER), which had higher coding efficiency than basic encoding rules,resulting in improved data acquisition and energy utilization rate.Lastly, on the given network with load-balancing topology control, this paper simulated HWSNMP and ANMP in the remaining energy acquisition and messagetransfer delay of network nodes through OMNeT++simulation platform, respectively.The simulation results showed that HWSNMP had advantages on remaining energy ofnodes and message transfer delay, can effectively reduce node power consumption,prolong network lifetime and improve network management efficiency.
