From the beginning of2010, marriage dating shows such as "You Are the One"," Take Me Out" were hot broadcasted in almost every provincial TV, and a surge of marriage dating shows were set off on the TV screen as a new trend. In all of these programs, the audience rating of "You Are the One" was the highest and this program has made a new record in entertainment programs’audience ratings. Because of the novel designs, dazzling stage lights, attractive handsome boys and beautiful girls, these new marriage dating shows were very popular in audience.As the representative of new marriage dating shows,"You Are the One" drew much attention from public; at the same time, there were a lot of disputes, which were concerning remonstrating the worship of money and hedonism values in these programs. Some programs spent much time to spread these values, in order to get high audience rating. However, they stimulated resentment and protest in the public. On the network platform, many people accused "You Are the One" of faking on inviting guests and speech, inviting a number of models, actors, rich second generation to attract the audience’s attention, and spreading purposefully worship of money and vulgar speech to stimulate the audience’s nerves and mislead the audience. On June9,2010, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television released a notice to renovate this kind of programs.The article’s purpose is to analyze and summarize the problem existing in this kind of programs and make proper suggestions through analysis and criticisms, in order to help program producers to create better programs.This article intends to use the theory of Encoding and Decoding which is put forward by famous cultural studies scholar Stuart Hall to analyze the features of encoding in the new marriage dating shows and audience’s decoding ways, and criticize the problems of the new marriage dating programs. Some constructive ideas are presented in the last part of this paper to replenish the Encoding and Decoding theory. That is decoding owns great influence and impact on re-encoding in today’s media environment. Finally, some suggestions and advices are put forward to help to build the long-term development of marriage and dating programs.
