McLuhan says that "the medium is the message", the born of medium which brings a new means and effect of communication, judging from medium itself is a kind of new information and knowledge. As one of the most powerful medium, IM (Instant Message) technology not only accelerate the speed of science and technology communication (SATC), but also it is concerned by people for its hot information and resource. Although IM will take new changes and effects for SATC, it does some harm because of the fast speed and poor management.The finally goal of this paper is to discuss and imply both positive and negative influence which IM take to SATC. The concrete details of this paper is: First, we introduce the definition of IM and some latest IM which is popular nowadays. Second, we elaborate the definition and development history of SATC, conclude the current situation and future trend of SATC.Third, we sum up the positive influence which brought by IM technology, such as the diversity of scientific sources, the spread of space from the generalization to the infinites, the diversity of the content from the expressions, the new changes of both broadcasters and audiences.Fourth, we discuss the negative effect of these new changes bring to SATC.Last, in order to promote the sound development of SATC, we should measured and audiences in four areas, such as the government do a good job in public communication and control of public opinion; the medium should reduce the uncertainty of scientific information; the broadcasters and audiences should promote their science knowledge and the realization of the positive effects of all the spread in practice, etc. Above all, can we make SATC develop sustainable and healthy.
